Coach Shep
02 The coach behind the work
I've spent over two decades in combat sports and more than a decade serving in the armed forces, including operational tours. I trained as an Army Physical Training Instructor, responsible for the fitness and physical standards of soldiers and officers. Where I served, the standard wasn't the target. It was the minimum.
Boxing has been a constant throughout my life. I became Army champion, Combined Services champion, an area champion and an ABA finalist, and I trained on national team programmes. Those years shaped how I understand preparation, discipline and performance.
“The deceptive, quiet confidence of a man that gets things done and makes things happen.”Army appraisal
After the forces, I worked in close protection and high-level security before focusing on coaching. Today I bring that experience to The Combat Coach at David Corfield Gymnasium in Albrighton. Whatever your starting point, the approach stays the same: understand the individual, build the foundations and make every session count.
Stay positive. Believe in yourself. Never give in.
03 The Primal 60 series
Eight bodyweight sessions. Eight different physical demands. One complete training system.
Primal 60 came from my own body. Years of training, competing and service placed a lot of demands on it. My range of movement suffered, and with it my performance and recovery, and I was more prone to injury. That's what led me to yoga, mobility training and functional movement patterns.
Through trial and error I learned that range doesn't come from stretching alone. It comes from moving through those ranges with control, and from recovering properly. Every Primal 60 session is built on that: strength, mobility, stability and control, one animal at a time.
Choose your session
Balanced by Cobra. Cat owns flexion and anti-extension; Cobra owns extension and the back line.
Prepare the joints, raise your temperature and set the movement quality for the hour.
Nine bodyweight exercises, three rounds. The strength and conditioning engine of the session.
Connect movement, balance and coordination around the day's animal.
Restore range, slow the breathing and finish properly.
“Range doesn't come from stretching alone. It comes from moving through it with control, and recovering properly.”Coach Shep
One system. Eight different demands. No single session does everything. Together, all eight build a more capable, balanced body. Rotate the sessions two or three times a week, respect the movement and progress at your own level.

New in the app · Primal Mobility
Primal Mobility turns each animal into a calm, yoga-style session of about forty minutes: open the joints, flow, hold, then rest. Less sweat, more range. All you need is a mat.

04 Combat Strength
Thirty-minute strength sessions with one piece of kit: dumbbells, a kettlebell or a barbell.
No queuing for machines and no wasted choices. Pick up the kit you have, follow the timer and get strong. Ten sessions to start, and a new one every week in the app.
Dumbbells. Kettlebells. Barbell.

Two dumbbells. Push, pull, squat, hinge.
One bell. Swings at the heart of it.
One bar, five lifts that build everything.
Press, pull, push. Shoulders, back and arms.
Get-ups, squats and presses. Strong from the floor up.
Legs and lungs. The bar stays in your hands.
Legs and core. Steady weight, long sets.
Fifteen minutes on the minute. Technique under fatigue.
Six lifts, one bar, no putting it down.
A countdown ladder that hurts in the best way.
One piece of kit is enough
when the session is built properly.
